Hammerjack is a new techno-thriller from Marc D. Giller. It is a cross between cyberpunk and every teenage boy's fantasy, with plenty of cyber gibberish, big guns and beautiful women. A fast, engrossing, and hopelessly unoriginal work. The characters and story lines are lifted from William Gibson's Johnny Mneumonic and the Neuromancer Trilogy, the pace and metaphors borrowed from Hollywood blockbusters, and the ending is worthy of a tv series pilot. Complete with a ridiculous title, a generic website, and a promise of a sequel "epic in scope, relentless in action", this is indeed a sign that science fiction has ran out of good ideas and the publishers are getting desperate.
In stores May 31, 2005.
